We took over the lease on the dodgy strip club below Spitalfields a while ago and since then it’s primarily been used to store the fruits of Huw’s compulsive auction house and eBay addiction. Turning it into a bar has been a lot of fun (and occasionally quite painful) and it’s allowed us to do something quite different with the design (think underground old school bling) and given us an excuse for endless tastings for a fantasy bar food menu.
The new food menu and the short drinks list, which will feature five monthly changing Desert Island Drinks (personal favourites chosen by various Hawksmoor bartenders) are here. Will and Huw are picking the first month’s drinks and their choices go back to the original 2006 Hawksmoor list. Spitalfields was the first Hawksmoor and it has been great going back to our roots a bit.
We’ll only be taking bookings for people eating although drinkers are welcome to come without a reservation – we’ll do our best to accommodate you if there’s space available. Please give us a call or write us an email if you’d like to make a booking as we don’t accept online reservations for the bar. The bar is also available for private events (via firstname.lastname@example.org ).

The Demise of Brunch
As many of you will know the chefs at Spitalfields manage to do an incredible amount from one of London’s smallest kitchens but unfortunately even they are unable to run three or four different menus at the same time, and with the new bar something had to go at the weekends and that was brunch. We’re aware that there’s a hardcore group of brunch aficionados and they’ll be very disappointed, but we’re adding the much-loved HkMuffin to the bar menu on Saturday and Sunday daytimes, along with Hot Dogs and Chilli Cheese Dogs, Shortrib French Dips, Cheeseburgers and Lobster Rolls amongst other things. We hope all that will help win them round. If the urge for the legendary Hawksmoor Breakfast for 2 remains too great, it can still be had at Hawksmoor Guildhall Monday-Friday 7am to 10am.
Brunchers – we’re sorry …
From now on Spitalfields will open at 12 on both Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday Times Best Companies
In an industry where short-term employment is depressingly commonplace, we try as hard as possible to create jobs that people enjoy and be a company where they can settle down and build a career. It seems to be working – people tend to stay with us for a really long time. We’re sure the decent money helps, but we think there’s a lot more to creating great jobs than just paying well. The Sunday Times gave us three stars in their Sunday Times Best Companies 2012 awards, which saw us ranked the highest hospitality company in the UK to work for, and 36th ranked company of any type (think Michelin stars – 1 star = great, 2 stars = exceptional, 3 stars = mind-blowing).
