Guildhall
Our steak restaurant near Bank, in the heart of the city
10 Basinghall Street, London EC2V 5BQ
Hawksmoor Guildhall is a stone’s throw from what may have been the world’s first steakhouse. Supposedly given by Queen Anne to her favourite cook, the eponymous ‘Dolly’s’ is likely to have opened between 1702 and 1714. In the mid 1800s, it received the following tribute:
“A more celebrated tavern does not exist within the precincts of London. Perpetually are its bars simmering and simpering forth their greaseful admiration of the tender steaks upon them.”
We hope our Guildhall steak restaurant will one day be worthy of the same praise, but for now, we’re content to count ourselves among the best steak and seafood restaurants in Bank and the Square Mile. Groups enjoy the best of our menu in our 24-seat private dining room.
Being in the crux of the City of London, it’s no surprise that on weekdays the dining floor is bustling with a business crowd. In recent years, though, Sundays have become something of an institution, with groups of friends or family gathering for the best Sunday roast in Bank.

“…An experience that’s relaxed but professional with interiors that have the glamour and colour palette of a Christmas Day period drama. And the food is just as glorious. Available steaks are chalked up on the board ready to be claimed, and the sides are legendary.”

Festive Cocktails
A festive meal at Hawksmoor is never complete without a perfectly made cocktail. A Very Merry Christmas
Be it a private dinner, party or just a lovely meal for you and yours, we love hosting a proper Christmas do. That being said, things don’t change much here come the festive season. So, instead of the cheesy tunes and chintzy tinsel, we double down on great steaks and seafood, reliably good service and a tasteful environment to celebrate in.
Our priority is making you and your family, friends or colleagues feel relaxed, happy and well looked after. Like the feeling of hosting at home, just without any of the fuss. For a seamless experience from the start, try to book early, as we tend to get busy in December. We’ll take care of the rest.
Sunday Roast in the City of London
Available from 12-5PM every Sunday
We might be a City restaurant – the Bank of England’s just round the corner – but Sundays at Hawksmoor Guildhall are a hoot. Families and groups of friends gather for that tastiest of British rituals: the Sunday roast. We like to give ours the proper Hawksmoor treatment, cooking whole rump caps of 35-day dry-aged beef, firstly on the charcoal grill, then finished in the oven.
Then come our much-loved trimmings: crispy beef-dripping potatoes, buttered greens, roasted carrots and humongous Yorkshire pudding for everyone – all ready to be doused in our deeply satisfying bone-marrow gravy. It’s a ‘no starters necessary’ kind of affair, with indulgent sides of cauliflower cheese and our own Hawksmoor stuffing completing the offering. . So, if you’re looking for Sunday lunch in the City, be sure to book as we can get very busy.
Events & private dining in Bank & the City
Our 24-seat private dining room is dedicated to the actors, artists and songsmiths who founded the Sublime Society of Beefsteaks back in the 18th century. The former club’s lively boho spirit flavours the dinners, parties and private business events we host in this characterful space today.
As such, you may like to kick things off with a cocktail reception, before sitting down to one of three of our sharing menus. Each offers you and your group the chance to sample a range of Hawksmoor classic dishes, with friendly, knowledgeable staff ready to suggest the best wine to match your choices.
Exclusive-use events are great fun at Hawksmoor Guildhall, too, whether it’s for a business do or a big-old birthday celebration. There’s comfortably space for 140 standing guests and we’ll make sure everyone’s taken care of with quality Hawksmoor-coded canapés and our usual roll call of world-class cocktails.
BYO Monday Wine Club
every monday, all day – £5 corkage
Mondays at Hawksmoor Guildhall means Wine Club. The rules? There are no rules. Everyone’s invited to bring their own bottle – be it Babycham or Cheval Blanc – and it’s only £5 for corkage. So dust off that special bottle under the stairs or buy one at the local wine shop on your way to our place and enjoy it with a lovely dry-aged steak or some super-fresh seafood.
Combine our Wine Club offering with two or three courses from our set menu (until 5.30pm and after 8.45pm) for the ultimate Hawksmoor hack. A three-course meal, with wine, for £37. Let’s have lunch like it’s 1999.
Our Express Menu
The spotlight may often be on our sharing steaks and indulgent sides, but did you know we also offer an express menu at Hawksmoor Guildhall? Perfect for those with limited time between meetings, or looking to enjoy a quick, satisfying lunch in the City, our express menu brings you the same Hawksmoor quality – just faster and easier on the wallet.
Available Monday to Friday 12:00-3:30m, you can enjoy 2 or 3 courses for £30/£35. And if you haven’t tried our Monday Wine Club, bring your own bottle for only £5 corkage. Pair it with the express menu for one seriously great deal in the heart of London.
What makes our food so good?
We’ve always been committed to serving the best steak and seafood the UK has to offer, sourcing from suppliers who share our principles in sustainability and animal welfare. It’s a simple fact that happy, long-living cows, raised on a diet of grass and fresh air, produce the best-tasting beef.
Right now, we’re carbon neutral because we purchase carefully selected offsets. We believe it’s the right thing to do as we work to reduce our carbon emissions. Over the next few years, we’ll be working even harder – across the entire supply chain – to find the best way to serve steak that produces fewer emissions, while providing nature-positive outcomes.
