To Hawksmoor purists and our longest-serving staff, our steak restaurant in Shoreditch is top of the chops. It was the first to open and the general view is that it’s where the ‘Hawksmoor spirit’ is best embodied.
What was once a rundown part of town in Commercial Street is now cool East London’s beating heart, and we’re proud to be part of a buzzing community of restaurants next to the famous Spitalfields market and, of course, Brick Lane.
This is a restaurant for great steaks, drinks and an amazing atmosphere, full of people who genuinely care whether you enjoy your evening. It all amounts to being one of the top steak and seafood restaurants in East London – be it for lunch or dinner.
Getting to us is easy: we’re practically over the road from Shoreditch High Street station and a 10-minute walk from Liverpool Street, Old Street and Aldgate tube stations.

We know the season can be a little stressful, so we try to zero in on exceptional service in an environment that feels remarkably laidback. We’re well versed in Christmas parties of most shapes and sizes, be it an intimate gathering of friends around one of our banquettes or a cocktail-led office party down in our speakeasy-feel bar. Whatever you’re planning, we’ll make sure you and your group feel like you’re somewhere akin to home.
Sunday Roast in Shoreditch

Ever since opening back in 2008, our mighty Sunday roast has been a Hawksmoor regular fixture in our Spitalfields restaurant. Twice voted the Best Sunday Lunch in the UK, we take it super seriously and that really shows in the kitchen: every station and team member is involved in the finished dish.
The result starts with a few slices of perfectly pink rump cap, cooked ultra slow. That’s met with a full suite of trimmings: crispy beef-dripping potatoes, buttered greens, roasted carrots and an enormous Yorkshire pudding – all ready to be drowned in our bone-marrow gravy. There’s a feasting option too which swaps the rump for a handsome sharing steak from the blackboard.
Private dining & events in Spitalfields
The Vesta Tilley Room is up there with our largest private dining spaces in London, comfortably accommodating up to 55 people. Its herringbone parquet flooring and dark-green leather banquettes set a tasteful tone for group events spanning business gatherings to landmark birthday parties.
Standing events are better served in our legendary basement bar, though, where 30 to 70 guests can take over the space, day or night. It has its own private entrance, perfect for private functions, Christmas bashes, product launches or corporate events. There’s room to bring your own DJs or live music, too.
Spitalfields Bar
Spitalfields Bar is now open for drinks on Friday and Saturday nights, 5 pm – 11 pm. No need to book; just pop in for drink or two. For groups of 8-10 people we can take a booking and offer bar snacks or sharing menus too.
Neighboured next to our very first restaurant, the bar has its own private entrance and has taken the very best of Hawksmoor – the cocktails, the food, the decor and the atmosphere – to create a more laid-back space that makes for memorable nights and events. The bar is all about laid-back hospitality, delivered by our incredible front-of-house team. Twice voted the world’s best restaurant cocktail bar, it’s a space with stories to tell.
It’s also a really cool space for private group bookings, birthdays, Christmas parties and events.
Our Express Menu
The spotlight may be on our sharing steaks and indulgent sides, but did you know we also have an express menu? Perfect for those with tickets to the Shoreditch Town Hall or The Courthyard Theatre, or heading out around Spitalfields Market, it’s a quick and satisfying option in the heart of Shoreditch.
Whatever your plans, our express menu – 2 or 3 courses for £29/£33 – brings you the same Hawksmoor quality, just faster and friendlier on the wallet. And if you haven’t tried our Monday Wine Club, bring your own bottle for only £5 corkage. Pair it with the express menu, and you’re in for one heck of a deal!

Some say Mondays are the most fun at Hawksmoor Spitalfields. That might have something to do with our BYO wine club, which invites you all to come along with a bottle of your choosing in exchange for a mere £5 corkage fee. That’s any size bottle, at any time of day.
Our wine team love seeing what guests have brought in and are, of course, more than happy to suggest a dish that might complement your bottle best. If you’re coming empty handed, straight from the office, pop into our friends at Passione Vino on Leonard Street. We’re yet to see them make a bad suggestion.
