EDINBURGH

Our steak restaurant in edinburgh’s St Andrew Square

23 W Register St, Edinburgh EH2 2AA

Our steak restaurant in Edinburgh is in the beautiful former National Bank of Scotland’s Banking Hall, a Grade A listed ‘building of national importance’. As ever, we’ve worked hard to create a steak and seafood restaurant that celebrates the building’s original features and honours its storied past. This is particularly obvious in our two private dining rooms.

It’s a lovely mix of locals and visitors to Edinburgh here throughout the week and you’re only a short walk from Waverley station, Princes Street and George Street. Famous St Andrew Square is on our doorstep and Edinburgh Castle is just round the corner, too. We look forward to giving you a warm welcome.

Sunday Roast sharing

Mother’s Day at Hawksmoor

Now, it’s an unspoken rule in most families that no one does a roast quite like Mum and although our Roast has been named the “Best Sunday lunch in the UK” twice, if we’re happy to come second place to anyone, we’ll happily concede to all the amazing Mums out there. So, why not pass the torch to us this year?

We’re on hand to assist you in making a fuss of all maternal figures in your life on Mother’s Day. If it serves you, book a table at Hawksmoor, treat her to a gift card or try out some classic Hawksmoor recipes at home – we’ll help make it special.

Our Express Menu

The spotlight may be on our sharing steaks and indulgent sides, but did you know we also have an express menu? Perfect for a pre-theatre meal for those with tickets to the Edinburgh Playhouse or for those exploring St Andrew Square, it’s a great quick meal option in the heart of Edinburgh.

Whatever you’re up to, our express menu – 2 or 3 courses for £25/£28 – delivers the same Hawksmoor experience, just faster and friendlier on the wallet. And if you haven’t tried our Monday Wine Club, bring your own bottle for just £5 corkage. Pair it with the express menu, and you’re in for one heck of a deal!

Hawksmoor Sunday Roast

Sunday Roast in Edinburgh

Available from 12-4PM every Sunday

Sunday lunch at Hawksmoor is something special. Regulars bring their families and friends, filling the place with a homely vibe, while our entire kitchen team gets stuck into preparing all the elements of our award-winning Sunday roast. Fair warning: it’s a proper feast. Especially if you’re tempted to throw in a few of our indulgent sides – the cauliflower cheese is a favourite for a reason.

If you’re in the mood for a bit of sharing, our Sunday feasting option (ideal for two or more) swaps out the classic dry-aged rump for a standout sharing steak from the blackboard, cooked exactly how you and yours like it. Add in the trimmings – beef dripping roasties, Yorkshire puddings, carrots, greens, roasted garlic, and a generous pour of bone marrow & onion gravy – and you’re good to go. Heads-up: Sunday lunches are popular, so we recommend booking ahead.

Events & private dining in Edinburgh

Our private dining Tellers Room impresses with its grand proportions and limestone walls, comfortably hosting up to 48 guests. Whether you’re thinking of hosting a family feast full of sharing steaks and sustainable seafood or a relaxed business dinner with wine pairings, we’ll work with you to create something special.

The McLellan private room, meanwhile, is a more intimate affair, hosting 13 guests around a circular dining table, complete with a fun Lazy Susan. Sticky Toffee Pudding roulette, anyone? We’ve named the space after one of the greatest Scottish artists of the 20th century, Sadie McLellan, who created the etched windows that surround our building.

BYO Mondays

BYO Monday Wine Club

every monday, all day – £5 corkage

What better way to start the week than with our BYO wine club? Bring your own bottle, whether it’s a splashy Saint-Émilion or that half-forgotten bottle of Lambrusco under the stairs, and we’ll pop the cork for just £5.

If you’re bottleless at home, head to Vino wine shop on Broughton Street on the way to our place. They always have great suggestions. The savvy move? Pair your bottle with our two- or three-course set menu (£25/£28, available until 3pm). A delicious three-course dinner with wine for £33. Not bad, eh? Now, will it be the rump steak with beef-dripping fries? Or the baked cod. Choices choices.

What makes our food so good?

We’re fortunate to have some amazing suppliers nearby, particularly the seafood, from around the Scottish coast. The quality is sky-high but so are their standards in sustainability and welfare. Of course, we also serve some of the best steak in Edinburgh – our dry-aged beef comes from cared-for native-breed cattle from both sides of the border.

At present, we’re carbon neutral because we purchase carefully selected offsets. We believe it’s the right thing to do as we work to reduce our carbon emissions. Over the next few years, we’ll be working even harder – across the entire supply chain – to find the best way to serve steak that produces fewer emissions, while providing nature-positive outcomes.
