To Hawksmoor purists and our longest-serving staff, our steak restaurant in Shoreditch is top of the chops. It was the first to open and the general view is that it’s where the ‘Hawksmoor spirit’ is best embodied.
What was once a rundown part of town in Commercial Street is now cool East London’s beating heart, and we’re proud to be part of a buzzing community of restaurants next to the famous Spitalfields market and, of course, Brick Lane.
This is a restaurant for great steaks, drinks and an amazing atmosphere, full of people who genuinely care whether you enjoy your evening. It all amounts to being one of the top steak and seafood restaurants in East London – be it for lunch or dinner.
Getting to us is easy: we’re practically over the road from Shoreditch High Street station and a 10-minute walk from Liverpool Street, Old Street and Aldgate tube stations.

Sunday Roast in Shoreditch
Available from 12-5PM every Sunday
Ever since opening back in 2008, our mighty Sunday roast has been a Hawksmoor regular fixture in our Spitalfields restaurant. Twice voted the Best Sunday Lunch in the UK, we take it super seriously and that really shows in the kitchen: every station and team member is involved in the finished dish.
The result starts with a few slices of perfectly pink rump cap, cooked ultra slow. That’s met with a full suite of trimmings: crispy beef-dripping potatoes, buttered greens, roasted carrots and an enormous Yorkshire pudding – all ready to be drowned in our bone-marrow gravy. There’s a feasting option too which swaps the rump for a handsome sharing steak from the blackboard.
Events & private dining in Spitalfields
The Vesta Tilley Room is up there with our largest private dining spaces in London, comfortably accommodating up to 55 people. Its herringbone parquet flooring and dark-green leather banquettes set a tasteful tone for group events spanning business gatherings to landmark birthday parties.
Standing events are better served in our legendary basement bar, though, where 30 to 70 guests can take over the space, day or night. It has its own private entrance, perfect for private functions, Christmas bashes, product launches or corporate events. There’s room to bring your own DJs or live music, too.
BYO Monday Wine Club
every monday, all day – £5 corkage
Some say Mondays are the most fun at Hawksmoor Spitalfields. That might have something to do with our BYO wine club, which invites you all to come along with a bottle of your choosing in exchange for a mere £5 corkage fee. That’s any size bottle, at any time of day.
Our wine team love seeing what guests have brought in and are, of course, more than happy to suggest a dish that might complement your bottle best. If you’re coming empty handed, straight from the office, pop into our friends at Passione Vino on Leonard Street. We’re yet to see them make a bad suggestion.
Rare Breeds at Hawksmoor
We’ve partnered with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) to launch a UK-first programme championing rare and native breed farmers and the incredible beef they produce.
By investing in these breeds, we’re helping to protect them. Supporting the farmers, the countryside, and a way of farming we’re deeply proud to stand behind.
Look out for our rare and native breed steaks on our blackboards – every weekend in all Hawksmoor restaurants.
