Hi New York. We are Hawksmoor.

Hawksmoor was inspired by a labor of love to find the best possible beef and perfect the seemingly simple art of cooking steak. After seven years of dreaming, planning, tasting and touring, we’re so happy to have arrived in the spiritual home of the steakhouse.

Our menu revolves around all-natural beef from family-run farms, many based in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and New England, simply seasoned with flaked sea salt and seared over live-fire charcoal.

Our home in the historic United Charities Building, steps from Gramercy Park, which was closed from public view for over a century, boasts a 26-foot vaulted ceiling, a thirty-five-seat bar, and two private dining spaces.

Since first opening over fifteen years ago, Hawksmoor has become one of London’s best loved restaurants, renowned for its dry-aged steaks, award-winning cocktails, conscientious approach to sourcing ingredients and industry-leading employment practices.

A Very British Midweek Lunch

Step away from the desk and into a proper lunch. Our lunch specials let you mix and match 1, 2, or 3 courses for $25 / $40 / $55.

The menu tips its hat to our heritage, with British classics like Potted Beef & Bacon, Fish & Chips, Coronation Salad, and more. Steak Frites for $25? Not too shabby.

Consider your lunch break properly upgraded.

Sunday Roast

A Sunday roast is one of Britain’s most cherished food traditions — a generous meal that gathers friends and family around the table at the end of the week. It’s less about rushing, more about settling in. Ours centers on slow-roasted, dry-aged beef, carved thick and served with crisp beef-dripping roast potatoes, a towering Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables and rich bone-marrow gravy. Everything arrives together, ready to be shared, passed and properly enjoyed.

In the UK, our Sunday Roast has been awarded Best Sunday Roast twice, and it’s the standard we hold ourselves to in Chicago. It’s hearty without being heavy, nostalgic without being fussy — the sort of meal that stretches into the afternoon and makes Sunday feel like something worth planning around. Served every Sunday in River North, and genuinely not to be missed.

Private dining in New York

Our private dining rooms – Lord Bronx & Ty Whoppity – take their names from the first British breeds born and raised on American soil, and they’re yours to make some noise in. Each one seats up to 12 around a single, handcrafted table of reclaimed wood, complete with moody lighting and walls that tell a bit of history.

Think big sharing menus, packed with Hawksmoor classics – pasture-reared American beef, sustainably sourced seafood, and the freshest seasonal veg. Kick things off with cocktails on arrival, sink into a porterhouse the size of your arm, and let us line up wine pairings that actually make sense with what you’ve ordered.

A long dinner, a loud dinner, or just a glass too many on a Tuesday – that’s what these rooms are made for.

BEEF. SALT. FIRE.

We are obsessed with beef. Always have been. Hawksmoor began with a simple belief that if you start with great cattle, treat it with respect and cook it over real fire, you do not need much else. Beef, salt and charcoal. That’s it.

For us it starts long before the steak hits the grill. It is about how the cattle are raised, what they are fed and the care taken by the farmers who rear them. We work with people who believe, as we do, that quality and ethics go hand in hand. Properly reared cattle, slower grown, well looked after and fully traceable. Sustainability is not a line on a menu. It is a responsibility.

Once it reaches us, our job is simple. Handle with care. Season it properly. Cook it over live fire. No shortcuts, no compromises. The right charcoal. The right heat. The confidence to let great beef speak for itself.

We are serious about this part. Because when you get beef, salt and fire right, everything else falls into place.

More than steak

We serve the kind of food and drink we genuinely want to eat and drink ourselves. You already know how seriously we take our steak, but it does not stop there. Our seafood is just as considered, from sweet shellfish to simply grilled fish that tastes exactly as it should. It is sourced with care and handled with a light touch.

Then there are the sides, which we treat with the same respect as the main event. Beef dripping fries that are crisp and fluffy in all the right places. Rich mac and cheese. Seasonal vegetables cooked properly and generously seasoned. The kind of plates that get passed around the table and argued over.

Puddings matter too. We believe dessert should feel indulgent and a little nostalgic. Sticky toffee pudding that demands a spoon straight down the middle. Peanut butter shortbread that walks the line between sweet and salty. Big flavors, no restraint, and worth saving room for.

And of course, the martinis. Ice cold, properly made and poured with confidence. No theatrics, no fuss, just the right glass at the right temperature, arriving at the right moment.
